CapFigure is proud to announce the establishment of a new contributor page.  Long-time friend & die-hard MLB fanatic “JD” will be posting his picks based on Vegas odds for MLB games throughout the season.  Without further ado, here are JD’s thoughts for today:

San Francisco Giants (NL) at St. Louis Cardinals (NL)

8:05 PM (EST) – Busch Stadium

Probable Starters

J. Cueto (RHP)  (8-1 W/L – 2.31 ERA – 1.02 WHIP – 72/14 K-to-BB)

A. Wainwright (RHP)  (5-3 W/L – 5.71 ERA – 1.47 WHIP – 40/17 K-to-BB)

JD’s Pick & Methodology

So far I’m happy with my picks, in terms of accurately forecasting starting pitchers’ performances.  Unfortunately I’m 0-3, due in large part, to anemic offensive performances behind J. DeGrom, J. Garcia, and J. Eickhoff.  A single run of support in each instance for their starting pitcher,  we all know that won’t win games and thus put money in our pockets.

I must continue to trust my methods and push forward so today I am taking the St. Louis Cardinals in an early season aces duel against the San Francisco Giants.  Adam “Waino” Wainwright, has found his stride of late after an early season start to forget.  If Waino can locate his cutter, he will more than likely post a quality start for the Birds; in fact, in his last four starts versus the Giants Wainwright has posted a 3-1 record and 3.21 ERA.  Wainwright still has an outstanding curve ball to go along with his cutter, for a strikeout pitch.  The Cards have historically hit Cueto well at Busch Stadium, facing him many times from his days with the Reds.  Cueto has been on a tear to start the season but has faced the likes of the Padres 3 times, the Rockies twice, the Brewers and the Reds.

Hunter Pence is out for the Giants, after being placed on the DL yesterday with a strained right hamstring.  Look for the Cardinals to take game one of this NL heavy-weight series.  As of now the money-line for the Cards is at +104.
