NFL Mock Draft (Part 2)

NFL Mock Draft (Part 2)

Dallas Cowboys (Round 1, Pick 4):

Joey Bosa – Defensive End, Ohio State

Coming into the 2015 college football season, Joey Bosa was at the top of many analysts’ draft board.  Fresh off of a dominant 2014 campaign in which Bosa led the Buckeyes to the inaugural BCS playoff championship, Bosa went on to repeat his consensus All-American performance in 2015. NFL Mock Draft (Part 1)

The 1st Round of the 2016 NFL Draft is just 9 days away.  In this multi-part series we’ll take a look at how I envision the draft shaking out:

Los Angeles Rams (Round 1, Pick 1):

Carson Wentz – Quarterback, North Dakota State

After acquiring this pick from the Titans late last week, it is clear that the Rams are going to select whom they hope to be their future franchise QB.  The only two QB prospects that justify being selected with this pick are Carson Wentz and Jared Goff.  Though Goff appears to have the higher floor of the two, Wentz’s potential alone makes him the pick.  The offense ran by Wentz at NDSU is very similar to that employed by the Rams under OC Rob Boras, meaning Wentz will come into training camp quite comfortable with the playbook and schematic concepts.  At 6′ 5″ and weighing in at 237 lbs., Wentz has the prototypical NFL QB frame; and pairs that with impressive athleticism.

The Truth About The “One & Done”

The Truth About The “One & Done”

Until a few nights ago I hadn’t given much thought to the current eligibility rules in place for NBA Draft hopefuls. Quite frankly, it didn’t affect me all that much. So what has me so outraged that I would be writing this article on a picturesque NYC night? There is a very clear distinction between looking out for your business’ best interest and exploiting 17 and 18 year-old individuals. Allow me to show you how the NBA owners continue to play by their own rules, even when it means crossing that line. Continue reading “The Truth About The “One & Done””

Here Come the Titans

Here Come the Titans

The Tennessee Titans just put the league on notice. The Titans are no longer the progressively deteriorating franchise, with a record of 27-53 under three different head coaches since Jeff Fisher left following the 2010 season. Continue reading “Here Come the Titans”

Match Game: NFL Draft Style

Match Game: NFL Draft Style

Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.  In the investment banking world, it is referred to as synergy.  Stockton and Malone. Belichick and Brady. Nowhere is this truth more evident than the NFL. If football is the ultimate team sport, then the NFL Draft process is the ultimate game of high-stakes speed dating. You only get to see what is on the surface. And you may think the pretty blonde across from you is exactly the girl you are looking for. But you won’t know until you two start going steady. T2S: Part 2

T2S: Part 2

My handful of loyal visitors, thank you. Let’s capitalize on the positive momentum here.

As is the case with all things great, there is a sequel. Come on did you all really think I was going to leave you hanging there.

So let’s get focused here. The prior article laid out the following observations I made:

  • The Rangers are a really good team but have a glaring hole at the catching position
  • An already iffy situation became worse, with Robinson Chirinos now out long-term
  • There are common traits amongst championship winners, catching is one
  • Lack of organizational depth at the catcher position

Texas Two-Step (T2S)

Texas Two-Step (T2S)

You could make an argument that there is no team more complete, from top to bottom, than the Texas Rangers.  Boasting a deep and versatile lineup, the Rangers match-up well at the plate against left-handers and right-handers alike.  How’d you like to face a potential staff of Hamels, Darvish and Holland in a playoff series?  Throw in a deep farm system with pro-ready talent and its easy to see why the Rangers are a popular pick to win the World Series.
