JD’s Pick & Methodology
Today I’m taking the New York Yankees at home in the Bronx, against the floundering Los Angeles Angels. I’m taking the run line (-1.5 at +135), which means the Yankees must win by two or more runs for this wager to payoff.
I like the fact that the two lefties at the top of the Yankees’ lineup, Jacoby Ellsbury & Brett Gardner, are seeing the ball well and putting it in play, which in turn allows them to be more aggressive on the base paths. The Yankees obviously have a stellar bullpen and with Tanaka on the mound it sets up well for the Yankees, provided the Yankees can put some runs on the board. I like the Yankees to tack on some late runs and win the game by a score of 6-2, or somewhere in that neighborhood. I like Tanaka to neutralize the Angels’ biggest threats, Mike Trout & Albert Pujols (both right-handed batters). Tanaka and his splitter make for an uncomfortable time at the plate for right-handed batters. I feel really good about this pick. Let’s see what happens.
